Affiliates Program @ Spread Firefox
Hello, and welcome to the Affiliates Program group!
The affiliate program is one of the most successful ways that Firefox has spread over the past few years. Hundreds of thousands of individuals, groups, and organizations have added a Spread Firefox affiliate button or banner to their website, leading to hundreds of thousands of downloads.
The goal of this group is to spark discussion around some of the following issues:
- How can we improve upon the existing program?
- How can we encourage more people to participate?
- What types of incentives encourage participation?
- What kind of creative banners and buttons work best for the program and how should they be organized?
- What other tools should we provide through the program that will make it easier to use, more accessible, and more engaging to participants?
- What special creative can we make available for Firefox 3?
If you have any questions about the program visit the Affiliates FAQs page or post a discussion to this group. To report abuse of the program, please visit Abuse Reporting. Please share your ideas! Thanks for being involved in the Firefox Affiliate Program.
Downloads list
Posted November 19th, 2008 by donmakI checked this group for the answer but didn't see it so I must ask: Where is the downloads list to track how many downloads were made? It used to be here but I don't see it anymore.

FAQ update and question on earning points
Posted October 17th, 2008 by ottodvIn the Affiliates FAQ there is section entitled "How do I earn Spread Firefox Affiliate points?", but it doesn't answer the question at all. In particular it should answer how one earns points with Thunderbird, Mozilla Store and SpreadFirefox banners?

New Points System - Downloads not Counted
Posted October 6th, 2008 by CouponsAfter the new points system was put into place, I noticed that I had not received any new points for a couple days. I knew that the system had been changed to count downloads instead of clicks. I send thousands of clicks with the Spread Firefox affiliate links daily, so it seemed strange that not a single person had downloaded.
Disappearing Points
Posted October 1st, 2008 by CouponsI checked my points today and I only have 653 points. However, I am in the Top Fox Movers with 1682 slots. How is this possible? Were points deleted from my account? I know that I have more than 653 points.
[Idea] several ID for a member to put on his different website
Posted September 25th, 2008 by crocoursHi everybody,
Suppose I have 3 websites, on which I want to put a link to firefox, and suppose I would like to know how many each website earned points. For the moment, I don't have the choice :
Unique ID
Posted September 24th, 2008 by anybloodyidOk I signed up
I put a button on my site, but how do I know if the ID number is mine.
Or do all the buttons have my number once I log in?
Nofollow has got to go
Posted September 20th, 2008 by undoITOne week after joining Spread Firefox I made it to the Top Fox Movers on the home page, which is very exciting. I've been promoting Firefox for years and I'm glad I can now see how many people are actually downloading.
I love open source / free software and I'm happy to promote Firefox as well as other open source projects.
Detailed Statistics
Posted September 16th, 2008 by undoITIs it possible to see more detailed stats, such as number of clicks, clicks and downloads by banner id... etc? It would be nice to see some details, but perhaps this is not possible with the affiliate tracking script that is being used. Is it a Drupal module?
New banner idea - easy to share buttons
Posted August 27th, 2008 by jglassenbergWhile continuing to work on "dynamic banners" (banners that display one thing to non-Firefox users and something else to existing Firefox users) another idea came up to spread Firefox banners more easily. We could use a service called Wildfire to let Mozilla supporters send a banner to a blog post, social networking profile, etc, with just the click of a button. This simpl

I am one of the admins/owners of a large UK angling forum with over 3000 members, and would like to add Firefox and other Mozilla downloads to our purpose built downloads section, for our members. I have the following questions;
1. Can I link to an immediate download for Firefox/Mozilla, and if so where can I find the link?
Survey Results are In!
Posted August 8th, 2008 by jcheaThe results of the Affiliates Survey are in! The survey was up from July 15 to Aug 4 and drew 245 completed responses. Here’s what we found out about who the affiliates are and what they’re experiences have been like using the Affiliates Program.

Outsourcing The Rewards Program - Suggestion
Posted July 28th, 2008 by NoMoreAdwareI think the rewards program should be broad enough to appeal to a diverse range of people. eg different cultures, interest groups, age groups, different walks of life etc. So to that end, why not outsource to one of the many companies that specialise in corporate rewards programs that can deliver a wide range of products and services to appeal to all kinds of affiliates? Diversity installs resilience and evolvability, which should further expand Firefox's market reach and ensure it's continued growth and evolution into the future.

monetary reward program
Posted July 16th, 2008 by web browsersOffering a t-shirt in exchange for points isn't very serious, and the top 250 links page doesn't count for much because of the nofollow tags. I think if you want to motivate existing affiliates and bring professional internet marketers on board you really need to provide a monetary reward program. Reading the other comments in these forums I see some people are asking questions like "what are the use of the points?" and "do we get paid?".
My suggestion is that affiliates should be rewarded an amount that's at least 30% of the expected 1st years average profit on each of their conversions. The soon to be discontinued adsense referral program for firefox / google toolbar combination seems to pay approximately 75c per conversion.
The payment isn't just about profit, but also about reimbursing affiliates for advertising costs in promoting firefox as well as paying due recognition to affiliates for sacrificing their precious time. A more reasonable compensation program is going to result in more time, effort and money directed towards promoting firefox.
Alternative ideas, disagreements or agreements welcome....

Wayne

Idea for points
Posted June 3rd, 2008 by jcheaIt seems like points in the affiliates program need to be improved. An idea I had was to have the points that each affiliate accumulates translate into some kind of prominence on the spreadfirefox homepage. For example, the affiliates with the top 5 amount of points would get buttons on spreadfirefox that are proportional in size to the points that they have.

What do affiliate points do exactly?

Would Someone Explain This To Me?
Posted May 21st, 2008 by StormbringerI've been away for the most part, except for a brief appearance a month back. When I check in today, I see that the worthless ego "points" that I have earned has dropped to 19. Also, I am not subscribed to groups (which explains why the e-mail stopped coming). What's up with this?

Anybody try Mozilla banners (or any other banner) in widgets?
Posted March 12th, 2008 by jglassenbergI'm tempted to just test out some banners in widgets myself. I have about 20-25,000 users in a Hebrew translation widget for iGoogle, which could contain an especially nice group of potential new users since the Firefox usage rate is apparently low in Israel. However, I am concerned about the results of posting banners in small widgets.

More banner ideas?
Posted February 19th, 2008 by jglassenbergOne of the purposes of the new banner prototypes we've been testing here is to find ways to make banners more fitting for web widgets. Because web widgets tend to be limited in space, developers are more reluctant to fill widgets with ordinary web banners. It would therefore be great to hear what ideas everyone has to make more widget-y banners.

Thunderbird Buttons
Posted February 3rd, 2008 by ottodvIt's been pointed out a few times that we need more Thunderbird buttons (there's only one available on the buttons and banners page at this moment). However there have been more, so I took some time to find them and put them together in a page, with an easy copy and paste interface.

Dynamic banners generation tool
Posted January 26th, 2008 by ottodvI have completed 2 working prototype dynamic banners and a generation tool that could be used for the SFx dynamic banner project. As Jeremy already published his banner generation tool, we now have 3 different approaches to the issue, which we can use as a basis for further discussion.

Proposal for dynamic banners
Posted January 10th, 2008 by jglassenbergI've been working on a prototype for a new banner page for SpreadFirefox that generates dynamic banners. The primary advantage of such a web page applies to visitors of websites with "Get Firefox" banners who already use Firefox and therefore could be shown a different banner, most likely for SpreadFirefox.
