About the Spread Firefox project

What is Spread Firefox?

Spread Firefox (SFx) is a Mozilla community project dedicated to marketing Firefox and increasing the number of Firefox users around the world. Spread Firefox is based on the same principles of community involvement that drive the development and testing of Firefox. As a small, non-profit organization, the Mozilla Foundation has limited resources at its disposal and relied on Spread Firefox as its original marketing team. Even as Mozilla grows we still believe in the power of that community and its volunteers. With support from Mozilla's marketing team this site provides a base for our users to share ideas, coordinate efforts and become a cohesive marketing force that we think can't be beat.

How can I help?

There are too many ways to help out to describe in an FAQ. There's room for everyone with any background to help Spread Firefox. Explore the site to find out what interests you, then jump in. You can start a project, participate in SFx activities, become an affiliate, a campus rep, or even simply spread the word about this site. Check out our getting started guide for tips on how to get involved.

Who runs the site?

Spread Firefox is an officially supported project led by Mozilla Corporation's marketing team. We also rely very much on key members of our community to maintain the site and help out other users. To learn more about our current team members check out our bios page.

How do I join the team?

Spread Firefox, like all of Mozilla's projects, relies on contributions from the community. Anyone can make suggestions and help improve the site. There are several ways to keep up with what the team is planning and give us your input

  • Mailing list - Join our mailing list or keep an eye on the news group for the latest news and updates.
  • Community marketing meeting - Attend our biweekly phone meetings where we discuss Mozilla community marketing and explore new ways to spread Firefox and promote the open Web. Read more about the meetings including when the next one will be held and what will be discussed.
  • #marketing - IRC users can drop by #marketing on irc.mozilla.org to exchange ideas and get to know each other real-time. If you don't have an IRC client you can use a web version we've provided to join the discussion.

If you'd like to work for Mozilla please see the careers page for more information.
