Mozilla Marketing Challenge: Impact Mozilla

Mozilla Corporation is launching a community based marketing challenge. In an effort to improve Firefox's user retention, we are reaching out to potential partners in the Mozilla community, marketing field, and leading international graduate and undergraduate institutions in the U.S and abroad.
Our marketing challenge will be structured in two rounds. First, entrants, either individuals or teams, will submit a one-page executive summary of their marketing plan. The marketing plans can either address Firefox's user retention or any other task that will help improve the Mozilla community. The deadline for the first submission is October 24th.
After the submission deadline has passed, a panel of judges will select the top ten entries according to the following criteria:
- Spirit. Does the marketing program embody the spirit of Mozilla and its global community?<?li>
- Professionalism and thoroughness. Has the proposal been well thought out and developed, integrating marketing strategy with tactics and creativity?
- Framework. Is the proposal based on a structured framework for approaching and solving the particular marketing challenge?
- Business decision. Does the program make good business sense from an investment standpoint?
- Measurability. Is there a relatively easy way to measure the program's effect on solving the challenge is set out to solve?
On November 5th, we will share with the world the top ten marketing plans. These ten finalists will then have until December 5th to submit a second, more detailed 10 page marketing plan. The final winner will be chosen by the community and will receive a $3,000 cash prize and the opportunity to implement their vision.
As a hybrid organization, Mozilla's success depends tremendously upon community support and participation. Please visit the project website http://impactmozilla.com and contact marketingchallenge@mozilla.com if you have more questions.

Question about the Marketing Challenge structure
Posted September 2nd, 2008 by jglassenbergI was just wondering if it is best to encourage a one page executive summary for the first round, followed up with a detailed marketing plan for the finalists. Executive summaries are supposed to be written after the rest of the marketing plan is written, so the above strategy may not encourage entrants to develop the most detailed, high quality plans. Requesting a full marketing pl

What do you think?
Posted August 4th, 2008 by lmesaThank you to all of you that have already subscribed!
We just want you to know that we're currently working on getting all the details together for the challenge and that we're really excited to get this project off the ground. We're thinking of launching sometime in late September or October, but in the meantime, we'd like to get some feedback and suggestions from you:
monetary reward program
Posted July 16th, 2008 by web browsersOffering a t-shirt in exchange for points isn't very serious, and the top 250 links page doesn't count for much because of the nofollow tags. I think if you want to motivate existing affiliates and bring professional internet marketers on board you really need to provide a monetary reward program. Reading the other comments in these forums I see some people are asking questions like "what are the use of the points?" and "do we get paid?".
My suggestion is that affiliates should be rewarded an amount that's at least 30% of the expected 1st years average profit on each of their conversions. The soon to be discontinued adsense referral program for firefox / google toolbar combination seems to pay approximately 75c per conversion.
The payment isn't just about profit, but also about reimbursing affiliates for advertising costs in promoting firefox as well as paying due recognition to affiliates for sacrificing their precious time. A more reasonable compensation program is going to result in more time, effort and money directed towards promoting firefox.
Alternative ideas, disagreements or agreements welcome....
Regards,
Wayne
